Hi Robert,
First of all I want to say, that fre.ac is a fantastic piece of software and you did a great job with it. UI and speed are great.
But I have a couple of remark, questions and suggestions.
First of all I am astonished about the chosen versioning theme you have chosen. I am sure you have invested some time to think about it already. A release cycle of 3 years between public updates feels a bit strange especially thinking of two facts:
Of course everyone can just use the continuous builds (as I do) but still this way has several problems:
One idea could be to use the Microsoft Store and add the continuous builds there so the users could have an auto update function via the MS store. I know this feels strange as the MS store seems to be mostly unused but as you are already in there, this could be an option. Of course an internal update tool would be an option but the issues in Notepad++ proved that this is not always a good idea.
Some suggestions from my side:
please show the currently used profile in the window title. I switch regularly between two profiles and I am often unsure about what profile I have activated.
when encoding is active that "start encoding" button is still active. When hitting it while an ancoding process is still active evil things can happen including that files are deleted or are encoded several times. Solution:
a) deactivate it while it is running
b) include files that have been added to the list to the conversion batch (prefered). As an alternative it would be nice if added files are automatically added to the current work list.
a) an option to disable this window completely
b) a configurable list of file types that are ignored (pdf, epub, txt etc.)
c) more types automatically ignored (pdf, epub, txt etc.)
Thanks for this great software.
Cheers,
Bodo
