How to control where popover menu appears?

Hello! I've rewritten my main bar to be vertical instead of horizontal (since Niri organizes its workspaces vertically, it's a more intuitive setup), but I've run into issues when it comes to the system tray. I have my system tray set up near the bottom right corner, which leads to an annoying situation where menus small enough appear beneath the tray icon, and those too big appear above it (potentially changing depending on its submenu), as shown by nm-applet here:

Ideally, I would be able to set the menu to always appear above the icon - or better yet, to the right of it. Is there any way to do that?

Also, is there a way to do the same thing with the tooltip on Button widgets? How do I even style said tooltip, anyways?
