What parts of Modrinth is your feature request related too?
Modrinth.com website
Is your suggested feature related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently, Modrinth completely blocks and rejects projects that are clean starting templates for Data Packs, Mods or Resource Packs. If a project is made to be a simple, well-commented base to help beginners learn how to code their own packs, it gets rejected as an "Unsupported Project".
This makes it harder for new creators to start their journey with Minecraft modding and pack creation, as they cannot find helpful starter templates directly on Modrinth.
Describe the solution you'd like
I would like Modrinth to officially allow and support starter templates and help packs for Data Packs, Resource Packs, and Mods.
The platform could implement this by:
- Creating a specific project tag or sub-category called "Template", "Framework" or "Base".
- Adjusting the moderation rules to accept high-quality, educational templates that are meant to help beginners easily learn how to properly structure and code their own packs.
This feature would immensely support new creators during their learning phase, ensuring they use modern and performance-optimized coding methods from day one, while expanding Modrinth's ecosystem to support technical tool development.
Describe alternatives you've considered
An alternative is hosting template projects exclusively on GitHub or community Discord servers. However, this separates the developer community from Modrinth, which is currently the main hub for downloading Minecraft content.
Another workaround used by creators is uploading templates disguised as fake content packs with a single feature just to bypass moderation, but this cluttering damages the quality of the platform's search results.
Additional context
This issue was submitted following moderation feedback on a rejected educational starter pack designed to help beginner data pack creators. The moderator explicitly suggested creating an issue here on GitHub to propose adding official platform support for template packs and starting tools.
