I maintain FreeBSD ports and pkgsrc packages for many scientific applications. When a port/package is updated, we are expected to provide highlights of the changes in the commit message. The same would be true for those maintaining Debian packages, MacPorts, etc.
However, https://github.com/nanoporetech/vbz_compression/releases does not provide any information on what has changed in each new release. It generally just says "version bump". So this is a request the more information is provided for future release, i.e. what bugs were fixed, new features added, etc.
