Is there a way to Handle Window Switching Properly?

I think my question might be related to this, but there weren't really any answers, except a link to what seemed like an unrelated issue.

I've been using Aerospace for two weeks now. It's great, but this is my biggest problem. This was a problem before Aerospace as well - this isn't new. Ex:

• I have two Chrome windows open - one for each of my two monitors. They are both in the background.
• Monitor A has Mail in the foreground and Monitor B has Slack
• I want to bring up Chrome on Monitor A, but keep Slack open on Monitor B
• I hit the button to bring up Chrome on Monitor A in my Dock, and MacOS not only opens it on Monitor A, but also "helpfully" opens it on Monitor B
  • Now instead of having Chrome on Monitor A and Slack on Monitor B, I have Chrome open on Monitor A, and Chrome open on Monitor B

This drives me nuts.
Unfortunately, Aerospace isn't immune to this. I have two Chrome windows open - each one on a different workspace. Each workspace on a different monitor. I hit the shortcut to bring up Chrome on workspace A on Monitor A, and it also, "helpfully", brings up workspace B on monitor B with Chrome as well.

This isn't unique to Chrome either - it's just the most common instance I have of two windows from the same app.

Is there a way to stop MacOS from doing this?

Alternatively, you can disable "displays have separate spaces" in System Settings which makes this bug go away.

Thanks for pointing me to the right conversation. The issue was kind of a hard thing to search for to see if anyone else was experiencing it.

Disabling "displays have separate spaces" seems to have helped. I don't love losing the top bar on my secondary monitor when I do that, but I'm sure I'll learn to live with it.

I'll read through the comments in that thread to see what that private API is when I have a bit of time.
