somehow allow for TRACE logging to be disabled automatically

Leaving TRACE logging on for a long time consumes a ton of disk space. This makes collecting logs or feedback from users slow and difficult because even zip files are large.

It'd be nice to be able to support automatic disabling of TRACE logging

Maybe the inverse would be more natural: an ipc command (or parameter to the existing log level setters) that makes the log level change effective for a finite duration before returning to the previous level.

Something like that is what I had in mind as well fwiw, but it's an implementation detail, so I left it out. It'd still be 'automatically disabled' after that period of time.
