Split folder > 1000 Files

Hi,

because of the limitation of 1000 files in one github folder (https://docs.github.com/en/rest/repos/contents?apiVersion=2022-11-28). May you can split the settings files in multiple directories?

So we can ensure the files can be used even over the github api.

hmm, what's your usecase? I considered partitioning to speed up browsing with GitHub's UI, but DCv2 doesn't really have a good field for this. platform and technologies occasionally have multiple values, and I've seen technologies change over time.

If you just need an API, the DCv2 settings endpoint is https://graph.microsoft.com/beta/deviceManagement/configurationSettings

I mean the "settings" folder. You have already structured the settings in a unique schema. To use this list of settings (including descriptions and IDs), I would love to utilize the GitHub API. Otherwise, I would need to clone your repository, which is possible, but it would be easier for me to fetch only the settings via the API without cloning the repository.

However, this is where GitHub’s limitations come into play. I would love to use your script/solution instead of interacting with the Graph API myself. 😊 Or do you see any other downside?

would the Git Trees API help, with its 100k file limit? this repo isn't really designed to be an API though, I change how the data is stored from time to time and I wouldn't want that to break your app. for example, settings has been replaced by DCv2/Settings and will be removed at some point. I'd suggest using Graph, since it won't change and has useful features like $filter and $select
