Out of date video on Balloon Annotations

Description

The video for balloon annotations is based on version 2.0 of QGIS, some of the other icons in this section are also out of date as of 3.40.

I'm unsure of how annotations have fully been changed in 3.40 but I believe that this entire section could potentially do with an update.

Yes, but I don't know if that actually harms. It it is about balloon annotations and is in that dedicated section. And yes, some of the mentioned tools have been removed in the meantime but do you think it really harms?
What we actually lack there IMHO is examples of images or videos for feature annotations (the previous section).

I've been trying to get my head around the new annotations format so am a bit confused with all the outdated information but agree that the video probably doesn't do much harm. I think the tools that have been removed could prove to be a bit of a sticking point until the new documentation is released as I've seen it brought up in bug reports, however if updated documentation is on the way soon then I guess it's not too much of an issue.

Other than that I'm happy to wait for the documentation that's being worked on and then revisit whether anything needs changed. Is there a rough time frame on when this new documentation might be ready? Even if it's just whether its on the scale of a couple of months or if we're looking at a year+.

Probably this week. I already started working on this last week but still need to test/revisit a few options and report issues on code repo 😄 .

Awesome! I've just had a look (my first time trying to actually understand commits/pull requests), the only thing I'd note is that I don't think balloon annotations are strictly limited to HTML and Form annotations any more.

I'll have a bit more of a look at commits/pull requests and if I see anything else might try and make some edits myself.

Ah right, so would balloon style callouts come under a different point in the documentation?

If you use the "Create Annotation at a Point" option to create a new text annotation, in the layer styling tab you have the option to turn the callout into a balloon style callout

Ah! Ok I didn't read "callout". I wouldn't go into details of those options given that they are described at https://docs.qgis.org/3.40/en/docs/user_manual/style_library/label_settings.html#callouts-tab but, indeed we can add a tip that it could be used to shape the old-style balloon annotation.

maybe an issue to report: Do you have the balloon nicely wrap your text? I can get this here

Ok makes sense.

As for the text wrap I have submitted issue #60919 regarding text alignment, and am waiting to see if the fix for the alignment has anything to do with text wrapping. Happy to submit another bug report if necessary though.
