📌 How to Ask Questions About FIT (Please Read First)

Welcome, and thanks for your interest in FIT.

This discussion explains how to ask questions about FIT in a way that is answerable, productive, and aligned with the project’s purpose.

If you skip this and your question gets a short answer or a link back here, that is intentional.

What FIT Is (Reminder)

FIT is a measurement-first, descriptive analysis framework.

It helps you:

• define what you are measuring,
• check whether that measurement is admissible,
• test structural propositions under explicit assumptions.

FIT does not predict outcomes, recommend actions, or make decisions.

✅ Good Questions (Strongly Encouraged)

These questions are on-scope and welcome:

1. Measurement & Estimators

• “Is this estimator tuple admissible under P10?”
• “Does this proxy definition violate coherence assumptions?”
• “How should I handle missing data in this estimator?”

2. Propositions & Evidence

• “Why does P02 return inconclusive in this run?”
• “Is this plateau segment sufficient to support P04?”
• “What would cause P02 to flip from supported to not_supported?”

3. Boundaries & Assumptions

• “How sensitive is this result to boundary type (open vs periodic)?”
• “Which assumptions are likely invalid in this setup?”
• “Is this boundary exclusion too broad?”

4. Reproducibility & Tooling

• “Can someone reproduce this result from my run bundle?”
• “Is this behavior deterministic under the same seed?”
• “Is this a bug or expected behavior under the spec?”

👉 Best practice:
Attach a run bundle or at least:

• estimator tuple
• boundary definition
• proposition outputs

⚠️ Weak but Acceptable Questions (Will Get Redirected)

These are allowed, but expect clarification requests:

• “What does this result mean?”
• “How should I interpret this pattern?”
• “Is this analysis correct?”

You will likely be asked to:

• specify your estimator choices,
• clarify boundaries,
• explain what interpretation you are trying to make.

❌ Off-Scope Questions (Will Be Closed or Redirected)

These questions are explicitly out of scope:

• “What should I do based on this result?”
• “Can FIT tell me the best strategy?”
• “Can FIT predict what will happen next?”
• “Can this be used to automate decisions or governance?”

FIT intentionally does not answer these.

How to Ask a Proper FIT Question (Checklist)

Before posting, please include:

• What system are you analyzing?
• What is your estimator tuple (F̂, Ĉ, Î)?
• What boundary assumptions are you making?
• Which propositions did you run?
• What was the result (supported / not_supported / inconclusive)?
• What specifically are you uncertain about?

If any of these are missing, your question is incomplete.

On Interpretation vs Action

FIT stops at structural description.

If your question begins with:

“So what should we do…?”

Then FIT has already done its job, and you have crossed into a different domain
(decision-making, policy, optimization).

That discussion does not belong here.

Community Norms

• Negative results are valid.
• “Inconclusive” is not a failure.
• Measurement assumptions matter more than narratives.
• Evidence files matter more than opinions.

Questions that respect these norms will always be welcome.

FIT exists to constrain interpretation, not to expand speculation.

If this feels limiting, that is by design.
