Proposed update 6.4 will be much larger in scope than initially intended. While the title says '7.0-beta1', extension version is displayed as 6.3.997.

There's been lots of changes, mostly to how menus are handled. This version is somewhat unfinished and is intended for early testing, but I would appreciate if anyone has any feedback.

how to install

• Download appropriate file
• Extract to some folder

Then things get bit different depending on what browser you use.

FIREFOX

• about:debugging, then click Load temporary addon.
• Navigate to the extracted folder and select manifest.json.

CHROME

• go to chrome://extensions/
• toggle on the Developer mode checkbox in the upper right corner of the window
• click Load unpacked button in the upper left corner of the window
• Navigate to the extracted folder and click "select folder"

Current features

• Crop and stretch should work like they always have.
• Zoom options: allows zooming for specific aspect ratios. If you want to know the difference between 'crop' and 'zoom', go and play around. You'll probably see the difference faster than I can conherently explain.
• New aspect ratio detection ft. subtitle cropping/detection. New auto-detection also has some counter-measures that try to detect and avoid cropping on videos of various powerpoint youtubers (e.g. Asianometry) and also some not-so-powerpoint-youtubers that like their black background with sparse but vertically centered content (e.g. 3blue1brown).
• Autodetection can now be set to stop after first detection, or after some time without detections
• Reworked in-player UI. Settings window still has a few missing bits.
• In-player UI has three visibility options:

1. show while mouse moves
2. show while mouse moves, but only if holding ctrl
3. show

• Free-form zooming is back with UI that's slightly more user-proof
• Keyboard shortcuts were split from UI settings, and have their own page now.
• iframes now inherit settings of the parent frame by default
