Hello. I've experienced a complete loss of all my data in ungoogled-chromium. I reinstalled Windows and moved all folders and registry keys to the new OS, but in doing so, all extensions and passwords were deleted. Why would you want to delete all your data? Why would you need it if it can't be portable? You'll have to reinstall the OS again very soon, and all your data will be gone forever, irrecoverable.

I suggest creating a truly portable browser and permanently destroying the installer version, as it will definitely delete all your data. Your passwords, settings, and extensions will be permanently destroyed.

I want to inform as many people as possible before their browser turns into a pumpkin.

I had to throw ungoogled-chromium away like a used, completely useless condom. My hard work on extensions is irretrievably lost. ungoogled-chromium has caused irreparable harm to me, because I used it as my primary browser.

Important note for anyone coming here from search engine: the issue described here has nothing to do with ungoogled-chromium. It could've been virtually any chromium-derived browser.

Just for the record, as written in the other issue, if you want to prevent some of the settings, extensions, passwords, etc. from getting encrypted, you must start the browser with --disable-machine-id --disable-encryption added via the command line when running it for the very first time (i.e. when the user data folder gets created). This is the only way, because if you add these command line switches later, they won't work, as the data will have already been encrypted at that point.

Only then can you transfer your user profile to a different machine and re-use it there without losing the data.
