Germany §14a/§9 grid control box: options for keeping the Modbus integration working #2289

Description

@Posse9132

In Germany the grid operator now requires a control box at the meter cabinet so they can curtail the PV system when the grid is under load (§14a EnWG / §9 EEG). Mine installed a Swistec SwiSBox in the meter cabinet.

Setup: SolaX X3 Hybrid G4 with neoom battery, connected via LAN, read and controlled from Home Assistant with this integration.

My installer says I have to add a neoom BEAAM/ Neoom Cube, because the inverter doesn't speak EEBUS and the box needs an energy manager as its counterpart. The problem: in #449 someone ran exactly that combination and the integration stopped working ("Connection reset by peer") as soon as the BEAAM was active. The inverter seems to accept only one Modbus master.

Three things I'd like to know before anything gets installed:

a) Relay contacts instead of EEBUS. My grid operator told me the control box can also be wired with potential-free switching contacts. I think that would bypass Modbus entirely and leave the integration untouched, which would be my preferred solution. Has anyone here actually wired a Rundsteuerempfänger or control box to a G4 hybrid via contacts? Does stepwise curtailment work, or is 0 %/100 % all this hardware can do?

b) Neoom device plus integration in parallel. If the EEBUS route is unavoidable: has anyone got the BEAAM running alongside this integration? I was thinking of putting a Modbus proxy/multiplexer in front of the inverter and pointing both at it so the single connection gets serialized. Does that hold up in practice, or are there known problems (timeouts, write collisions, register conflicts)?

c) Any other way to deliver the grid operator's curtailment signal to this inverter without a second Modbus master?

Input from other German users who have already been through the §14a/§9 installation would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance!
