Lore: Strange Temples

It just came to my mind that these structures lack lore.

It is understandable that the things in the depths of the mines could stay hidden for so long because there is literal solid rock obscuring it, but these strange temples are on the surface and should be visible from satellite imagery, if not from planes and such.
So did they just appear or were they invisible for whatever reason?

One thing I could imagine is that the portal storms brought them here. XEDRA might have some documents about them. Also maybe newspapers, which means visibility and people exploring them (and dying).

STRANGE STRUCTURES APPEARED ALL OVER EARTH

Many people spotted the weird temple-like structures appearing in deep forests.
Authorities warn against going anywhere near it. "You are risking coming into contact with
unknown contaminants.", warns the CDC. Furthermore, the military appears to be interested,
too. "Be aware that you are potentially trespassing onto a site of immense archeological
value. Any rioters will be shot on sight to perserve the sanctity of the crumbling ruins."

That would also mean some more variants of the temple, e.g a military one, one where people tried to explore (and failed) and maybe a super rare one where there will be a boss possessed by the artifact.
