Fix client.low_on_memory by stopping the compiler optimizing away the calls to malloc(). Fix client.drx-scattergather-instrumentation-fault by increasing the timeout to allow for SVE2 tests. Also code improvements to the client.drx-scattergather and client.drx-scattergather-bbdup tests. Issue: #5365

Also fix a memory leak in the client when the low-on-memory event has not occurred.
Fix client.drx-scattergather-instrumentation-fault by increasing the timeout to allow for SVE2 tests.
