It turns out the tests got skipped due to an oversight in the test workflow configuration, and since the other workflows passed I assumed the tests had passed. |

For some reason the tests passed in #713, but now that that code is in the main branch, it's failing tests. This is an attempt to fix the changes in #713 that caused the breakage.
