Following clang-tidy, which says: "Such use of _const_ is usually superfluous, and can prevent valuable compiler optimizations." https://clang.llvm.org/extra/clang-tidy/checks/readability/const-return-type.html
Reduced boilerplate code by returning directly from its `switch` cases.
