This is a draft PR for implementing the new data model that is currently proposed at #167 . The changes that are currently in this PR are summarized in the first comment of that PR, together with some open discussion points.
I'd suggest to keep the discussion going on in #167 , to align the document that describes the actual state of the data model (as a "specification"). I'll try to keep this PR here up to date with decisions that are made there.
