Connecting to Backend

1. Backend Setup

First, set up and start your backend:

# Navigate to backend directory
cd backend

# Install dependencies
npm install

# Create .env file with your configuration
PORT=5000
MONGO_URI=mongodb://localhost:27017/churchconnect
JWT_SECRET=churchconnect_secret_key

# Start the backend server
npm run dev

2. Frontend Setup

After backend is running, set up the frontend:

# From the main project directory (not backend)
npm install

# Create .env file with:
VITE_API_BASE_URL=http://localhost:5000/api

# Start the frontend server
npm run dev

3. API Services

The frontend connects to the backend through API services located in /src/services:

  • authService - Authentication endpoints
  • churchService - Church management
  • eventService - Event management
  • groupService - Group management
  • donationService - Donation processing
  • mediaService - Media library
  • dashboardService - Dashboard statistics

All API calls are handled through src/services/api.ts which includes:

  • Base URL configuration from environment variables
  • JWT token inclusion in requests
  • 401 error handling for token expiration
  • Request and response interceptors

How can I deploy this project?
