I'm good with this (though take a look at my suggestion for cleaning up the binding), but worth chatting at some point about changing the behavior for __repr__ (i.e., it might also make sense to have __repr__ use literal=true and __str__ use literal=false)

I needed a way to get the node symbol to print without parentheses in python. This works for my use-case, but let me know if you want to handle this differently.
