macUSB is the easiest way to create legacy macOS bootable drives on modern Macs. You can revive old Intel Macs using your Apple Silicon machine—no Terminal knowledge required.
To get started with macUSB, please follow the steps below. This guide is designed for users of all skill levels.
Before you proceed, ensure your Mac meets these basic requirements:
- Any Apple Silicon Mac or Intel-based Mac
- macOS version 11.0 or later
- A USB drive with a minimum capacity of 16GB
- Sufficient disk space on your Mac to download the macOS installer
To download macUSB, visit the releases page and retrieve the latest version:

On the Releases page, find the latest version of macUSB and click on it.

Look for the asset that ends with
.dmg. This file is the installer for macUSB. Click on it to start the download. -
Once the download completes, open the
.dmgfile and drag the macUSB application into your Applications folder.
Once you have installed macUSB, follow these simple steps to create a bootable macOS drive.

Open macUSB from your Applications folder.

Insert your USB drive into your Mac. Make sure to back up any important data on the drive, as this process will erase all content.

Select the macOS Installer. You will need to have the macOS installer downloaded on your Mac. If you haven't done this yet, you can download it from the App Store.

Choose Your USB Drive. In macUSB, select the USB drive you wish to use from the list of available drives.

Create the Bootable Drive. Click the "Create Bootable Drive" button. This process may take some time, depending on the speed of your USB drive.

Wait for Completion. Once the process is complete, you will receive a confirmation message. Your USB drive is now ready to use!
