FAQ

Do I need to own Hades to use this mod?

Yes. You need to own Hades on PC for either Steam, Epic Games or through the Xbox Game Pass or Windows Store.

Can you update the mod so I don't need Hades to use it?

No.

Can I install this mod on Steam Deck?

Yes! Follow the Hades II Mod Wiki Steam Deck Guide to learn how to use mods on Steam Deck.

Make sure that both Hades and Hades II are installed on your internal drive, and not a microSD.

Do Hades mods (like Olympus Extra) work with this mod?

Mods for Hades will not work with this mod, as it only implements certain game elements from Hades into Hades II. While using this mod please uninstall all Hades mods first to prevent any conflicts.

To do so, rename your Mods folder in your Hades installation to something else, then run modimporter.exe. To reinstall your Hades mods, rename the folder back to Mods and run modimporter.exe again.

When trying to install this mod, I get errors relating to mods I have for Hades!

See the question above for the solution, you must uninstall Hades mods before you can properly use this mod.

I own Hades and Hades II on different stores (Steam/Epic/Microsoft). Can I still play this mod?

Yes. If you have Hades installed in a different folder from Hades II, such as when you own the games on different stores, you need to set the hadesGameFolder setting in the configuration file to the absolute path to your Hades installation, such as C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hades if installed through Steam, C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Games\Hades if installed through Epic Games, or C:/Xbox/Hades for Microsoft Store/Game Pass (the actual path for your installation may be different from these examples!).

When first starting/installing the mod, my game stops responding/I see a black screen!

When the game is first started with the mod installed, it needs to copy some files from your Hades game folder to the Hades II folder. Depending on your hardware, this may take a little longer and cause the game to seemingly freeze. Please don't close the game, instead, monitor the installation progress through the Hell2Modding console that is opened when you start the game modded.

I also play on Switch/Switch 2, does this mod work with cross-saves?

Yes, you can still use this mod, as long as you don't attempt to continue an ongoing Zagreus' Journey run on Switch - you need to be in the Crossroads or a vanilla Hades II run when cross-saving and continuing play on your Switch or Switch 2.

However, please be aware that there are some minor limitations when using cross-saves:

  • Any Zagreus' Journey cosmetics you have equipped will disappear when you load the save on Switch - they should reappear once you load the game on PC again, as long as you don't change the equipped cosmetic to a vanilla one.
  • Some streak-related dialogues or voicelines that check for events in previous Zagreus' Journey runs will not play if your last or last few Zagreus' Journey runs are not within the last 10 runs in total - the game saves less data for older runs, and if the mod is not active (when playing on Switch), it cannot prevent this data from being removed. This doesn't have any deeper gameplay consequences.

Something broke and my save doesn't load/x doesn't work anymore!

Not all mods will work with this mod, so if you recently installed a new mod or there was an update to a mod or the game, that might be the issue. Try disabling other mods and start a discussion in this repository if you think the mods should work at the same time.

Otherwise, try reinstalling the mod first by setting both uninstall and firstTimeSetup in the mod config to true and running the game. If that doesn't work, set only uninstall to true, run the game and then remove the mod from r2modman.

If that doesn't work, start a discussion in this repository and upload your save files and LogOutput.log to it so I can investigate the issue.
