Atlas Hotfix

24 Dec 19:16

Choose a tag to compare

This is a hotfix for the Minecraft 1.21.11 version which resolves the issue where armor items—all armor items—showed up as missing textures (end stone levers were suffering from a similar problem, FWIW).

Many thanks to @Levih2009 for reporting this bug.

This is a release for 1.21.11 (older versions will receive backports soon, but the changes are minimal)

What's Changed

  • The default / working branch is now 1.21.11 (versions going back to 1.21.5 will continue to receive backports)
  • The "downfall" parameter of umbrella jungles has been set to 0.5, so snow should no longer accumulate there, even in winter when playing with Serene Seasons
  • Additional Ukrainian translation work by @StarmanMine142 in #104

Choose a tag to compare

This release contains a few bugfixes and one major compatibility improvement:

  • Aurous Ice (the gold kind) now correctly breaks and drops when mined with a pickaxe, resolving #96
  • Pedestals no longer desync between server and client when playing on multiplayer, resolving #88
  • Chorus Crabs now naturally despawn when far away, unless the player breeds them, feeds them or names them (resolves #78)
  • Lighter End is now compatible with TerraBlender (#93) and mods such as Biomes O'Plenty, though you may want to adjust your TerraBlender settings to increase the size and abundance of vanilla biomes.

A Lighter End

26 Oct 18:35

Choose a tag to compare

This marks the first "stable" full release of Lighter End and fully realizes the vision of a rich, explorable End, even under vanilla world generation rules.

There is also now a Lighter End Wiki which, while still needing to be fully fleshed out, already contains a ton of helpful information about biomes, mobs and mod compatibility.

Changes Since Beta 3

  • The primary development branch is now targeting 1.21.10, though 1.21.8 and 1.21.5 will continue receiving backports for now
  • There are, however, some features exclusive to 1.21.10:
    • smelting emerald ice yields copper nuggets
    • all end woods now have shelf variants
    • you can now craft Copper Chandeliers, which can oxidize and can be waxed
      • you can enable an optional resource pack to give waxed chandeliers distinct item textures to their unwaxed counterparts, similar to the VanillaTweak
    • there is now an experimental game mode that will set the world spawn to a random position in The End. This means you can try your hand at going through the full game progression, culminating in beating The Ender Dragon, without ever having been to The Overworld. Not all seeds and world spawns are winnable—even though this game mode spawns you with a "starter kit" in a barrel—and it's quite possible that worlds generated with this option enabled will have unforeseen issues, so toggle it on at your own peril
  • Under "vanilla" worldgen (default world type, no worldgen datapack like Nullscape), End biomes will now be 16x larger. This means jungles with more than two trees, Umbra Valleys large enough to spawn phantoms and megalakes large enough to actually hold water. Note that if you play with other End mods that use Fabric's End Biome provider, the biomes from those mods should be enlarged as well.
  • Lighter End now has two more biomes from Better End:
    • Sulfur Springs, complete with massive Geysers and Sulfur Crystals which unlock gunpowder crafting (and thus rockets)
    • Shadow Forests, complete with Dragon Trees (and a new Dragon Wood woodset), Purple Polypores, prickly Needlegrass, tasty Shadowberries and blindness-inflicting Murkweed, which in Lighter End can be used to craft black dye (save your wither rose farming for wither roses!)
  • Chorus Crabs will now pick up (and very rarely spawn carrying) swords. You mess with Crabo, you get a stabo.
  • Umbrella Juice can now be crafted into sugar
  • A simplified version of BetterEnd's Pedestals are now in the mod. They don't stack into columns, and Lighter End will never have infusion rituals, but you can still use them to display your pretties
    • Note that there is a known bug (#88) where pedestals can desync between the client and the server in multiplayer. This does not (as far as I know) allow for actual duplication.
  • The wing layer of Silk Elytra will now show armor trim patterns (this is implemented as an optional resource pack and can thus be disabled if you don't like how they look). These patterns are lovingly stolen adapted from the Elytra Trims mod.
  • Silk Elytra have a new texture
  • Lighter End is now fully compatible with the Elytra Trims mod: #75
  • It's now significantly cheaper to craft more Silk Moth Nests: #76

Bugfixes

  • End levers now drop when mined (#71)
  • End wood hanging signs (and shelves for folks playing on 1.21.10) can now be crafted from stripped logs or stripped wood, which was needed because tenanea logs don't generate naturally (#73)
  • Silk Elytra can be un-dyed using a cauldron (#74)
  • Fixes a hard incompatibility with Enderscape 847bbec
  • Added some missing sound events and translations
  • Lighter End's logos—including the one that appears in ModMenu—have been updated. Hope you like them!
  • The README (which will also serve as the mod description on modrinth) has been rewritten to focus more on Lighter End as a standalone, as opposed to comparing it to Better End
  • The end gravity settings on the client are now forcibly set to the server's values at the time of mod initialization. This is a fix for #89 though it sadly does mean players in single-player will no longer be able to change their gravity settings on-the-fly (🥁)

Supersize Me

09 Oct 14:44

Choose a tag to compare

Aside from some bugfixes, the main feature of this release is that LighterEnd biomes should now generate larger. This means jungles with more than two trees, Umbra Valleys large enough to spawn phantoms and megalakes large enough to actually hold water.

As for those bugfixes:

  • End levers now drop when mined (#71)
  • End wood hanging signs (and shelves for folks playing on 1.21.10) can now be crafted from stripped logs or stripped wood, which was needed because tenanea logs don't generate naturally (#73)

Full Changelog: v0.3.1...v0.3.2

Note that this release has builds for:

  • 1.21.5
  • 1.21.6-8 (labeled "1.21.8")
  • 1.21.9-10 (labeled "1.21.9")

A New Age

08 Oct 14:30

Choose a tag to compare

This is a 1.21.10-only release that adds the following additional features:

  • smelting emerald ice yields copper nuggets
  • all end woods now have shelf variants
  • you can now craft copper chandeliers, which can oxidize and can be waxed

Note that LighterEnd will continue updating for Minecraft 1.21.8 (and 1.21.5 for now), just without these Copper Age exclusive features

An End Worth Living (Beta 3)

30 Aug 20:03

Choose a tag to compare

This is the third Beta of LighterEnd, available for Minecraft 1.21.5 and 1.21.6-8.

Since the last milestone, LighterEnd has added a new mob, a new pseudo-biome and a bunch of new features and structures that should now make it so a player never has to leave The End.

What's New

  • The Chorus Crab New and Improved Chorus Crab is a neutral mob that spawns in Blossom Forests and Megalakes. These gentle giants can be bred with Chorus Flowers, and killing them drops Crab Meat and Craw Claws, the latter of which can be used to craft Shears, which is easily the most important tool in LighterEnd.
    • If you've been following along with LighterEnd's development, you'll note that this mob's aesthetics are vastly improved since its first introduction in v0.2.1, all thanks to a model designed by Pegnok of the BetterX Discord
  • Many crafting recipes that require cobblestone now have alternatives that can be crafted with End Stone. These include the specially textured End Furnaces, End Smokers and End Levers but also just the ability to craft regular Droppers, Dispensers, Observers and Pistons using End Stone
  • While traveling through The End, you may come across an Obelisk. An Obelisk structure found in an Umbra Valley. These serve as checkpoints for the new Totems of Teleportation, which can be found at Obelisks (and farmed from the Trial Chambers below). An Obelisk Trial Chamber activated and summoning Endermite A Totem of Teleportation can be bound by right clicking on any Obelisk. Then, as long as that totem is in the player's hand or off-hand, the player will be teleported back to that checkpoint were they otherwise to die.
    • This even works to save a player that's fallen into The Void!
    • You may have also noticed that BetterEnd's Chandeliers can now be found in Obelisk Trial Chambers. They can also be crafted by combining Lumecorn Rods with Iron or Gold (or soon Copper!)
  • Ice Stars have been reimagined for LighterEnd as a source of precious metals. Ice Stars The three flavors of stars (copper, iron and gold) can be found rarely in void biomes (e.g. End Barrens) or in large concentrations in the rare Starfield biome.
    • Be aware: the colored ices found in the outer layers of these stars can be mined with any pickaxe (no Silk Touch required) and can then be smelted down into their respective nuggets
  • Aurora Crystals and the three varieties of Jadestone now naturally generate in the world
    • with Jadestone now being mineable with any pickaxe instead of requiring an iron tool.
    • Redstone and Quartz Ores can now be set to generate in The End. This feature is off by default, but toggling it on in your LighterEnd config will allow you to craft a large variety of decorative blocks and technical components without ever leaving The End.
  • LighterEnd now has Advancements that should hopefully be useful for guiding players through the mod without them needing to consult the source code (or eventual Wiki #16)

Bugfixes

  • Hanging Signs now have the correct GUI, (#60) thanks to contributions by @Foozey
  • Breaking an end wood Ladder would not drop the ladder (#69)
    • It's also now more efficient to break an end wood ladder with an axe
  • Trap Doors now have the correct recipe shape
  • Cubozoas (and other mobs) should no longer have their animations randomly start playing at superspeed

Warping to Safety

16 Aug 20:16

Choose a tag to compare

This release revisits BetterEnd's Respawn Obelisks, repurposing them to serve as anchor points for the brand new Totems of Teleportation, which save players from death by instantly warping them to the Obelisk they last clicked with that Totem. Unlike regular Totems of Undying, This will work, even if you fall into The Void! (and thus give you a massive leg up compared to BE's Respawn Obelisks in that they also save your stuff!)

Totem of Teleportation bound to an Obelisk

To acquire one of these totems, you'll have to travel far and wide to find an Obelisk (they appear every 2000 blocks or so and can be neither broken nor crafted), each of which generates with a totem at its base.

An Obelisk structure found in an Umbra Valley

That one's yours for free, but to acquire more, you'll have to descend down into the Trial Chamber below, as it's only through defeating the spawner that you can acquire additional Totems.

An Obelisk Trial Chamber activated and summoning Endermite

Additional Changes

  • Adds End Stone Levers, which can be crafted from sticks and end stone
  • Eating uncooked Crab Meat now has a 50% chance of causing the Hunger status effect (riskier than Raw Chicken, safer than Rotten Flesh)
  • Slightly improves the Crab Cake texture
  • Adds the Iron and Gold Chandeliers from BetterEnd

Sheareously Crabby

14 Aug 01:02

Choose a tag to compare

This release for 1.21.5 and 1.21.6-8 introduces the Chorus Crab, a dapper gentleman who prefers to keep to himself along the banks of Megalakes and among the Tenanea Trees of the Blossom Forest.

Chorus Crab

Unfortunately for them, not only is their meat quite tasty, but two of their claws allow you to craft Shears, a seriously useful tool for collecting the Lighter End's delicate foliage (to say nothing of the Silk from Moth Nests).

Crafting Shears From Crab Claws

These alien crustaceans will defend themselves, but between their slow attack and their short reach, a wooden axe should be all you need to crack one wide open. Alternatively: you can make friends not food by feeding them chrous flowers

Additionally, this release adds End Stone Furnaces and End Stone Smokers, perfect for all your smelting needs without requiring supplies from The Overworld.

And finally, shout-out to @Foozey for both identifying and demonstrating how to fix an issue with hanging signs having the wrong GUI (#60)
