This repository contains all MATLAB (.m) scripts and figures associated with our paper “Evolution of Shear-Zone Fractures Presages the Disintegration of Thwaites Eastern Ice Shelf” Published in JGR: Earth Surface, 2025 📄 Paper Link: https://doi.org/10.1029/2025JF008352 Overview

The project investigates the progressive fracturing of the Thwaites Eastern Ice Shelf (TEIS) from 2002 to 2022. We provide processing scripts, analysis routines, and visualization tools used to produce the figures and results in the paper that contents

  1. Data Processing: Preprocessing of satellite imagery, fracture digitization, and velocity data
  2. Analysis Scripts: Statistical trends, strain-rate calculations, and time-series analysis
  3. Visualization: Figure generation for publication-quality outputs
  4. Supporting Functions: Helper scripts for geospatial data handling and mapping All scripts are provided in MATLAB (.m) format

Data Availability

The datasets used in this study are publicly available:

  1. Fractures and mélange areas: Banerjee et al. (2025a), U.S. Antarctic Program Data Center
  2. Landsat imagery: USGS Earth Explorer
  3. Sentinel-1 imagery: Copernicus Open Access Hub
  4. Annual velocity composites (2013–2022): Banerjee et al. (2025b)
  5. MODIS-derived velocity and strain-rate composites: Alley, Klinger, et al. (2021)
  6. Sentinel-1 monthly flow velocities: Banerjee et al. (2025c)
  7. AMIGOS GPS datasets: Truffer et al. (2025)
