There isn't much to change from the basic ways of modelling and animating that you need to make. The only things you must do are the following:
When your model is done, keyframe every bone on every single frame. So select a bone, then select the entire timeline of that bone, and add a keyframe to every frame. This just needs to work for the animation importer.
When you export your model, export the .fbx file as a ASCII format, NOT a binary format.
