@CrackXT Could I ask you -- are you well-versed in the languages you translated? Did you use a translation program or some AI to do some of the translations?

Hello dhalbert,

yes you can :), my native language is German. I did the other translations with the help of deepl.

In addition, I checked whether the translation at the end resulted in the same word order as in English.

This is certainly not perfect, but I think it's a good compromise.

If the procedure is not correct, please let me know.

Thank you for your work and that of the community!

With kind regards

I don't know if using a translator without having the ability to check the result is a "good compromise".

Here translating TileGrid, a class name, is bad.

circuitpython/locale/fr.po

Lines 2139 to 2143 in 5dd6010

#: shared-module/tilepalettemapper/TilePaletteMapper.c
msgid "TilePaletteMapper may only be bound to a TileGrid once"
msgstr ""
"Le TilePaletteMapper ne peut être lié à une grille de tuiles qu'une seule "
"fois"

So is translating words inside parameter names.

circuitpython/locale/fr.po

Lines 2680 to 2682 in 5dd6010

#: shared-bindings/audiofreeverb/Freeverb.c
msgid "bits_per_sample must be 16"
msgstr "bits_par_échantillon doit être de 16"

I should have spotted the issues above.

@CrackXT Could you fix the issues above, and look for similar issues? Thanks.

If you don't know a language that well or at all, then I think it might be better to leave the translations to humans. Once a translation is done, it's not likely to be audited by a human unless someone encounters the message, since the message will not be listed in weblate as needing translation. Computer terms in particular can vary a lot. A native speaker could use AI to speed up translations, but would also notice bad translations easily.

At the very minimum, an AI doing translations should be prompted to never "localize" technical terms such as variable names. It's surprising to me that a modern AI made mistakes like this in the first place.
