This document covers the procedure for updating the firmware on the FrSky Taranis X9D-Plus radio, and setting it up to work with the receiver in Cassie.
- Put the radio in firmware update mode (hold the two horizontal trim buttons toward center and turn on the power switch) before attaching to a computer with a USB cable
- Open the OpenTX Companion Software and load the CassieModel.eepe file from the Companion Files folder in the drive. (If this is your first time opening the OpenTX Companion Software, simply click "OK" when prompted to edit settings.)
- Open the CassieModel.eepe file
- On the left hand side of the Companion, there are three download icons (denoted by red downward arrows) for downloading model and settings, radio backup, and firmware. Select each in turn, and specify either TaranisFirmware.bin or RadioBackup.bin as appropriate from the Companion Files folder. (The model and settings will be downloaded from the open CassieModel.eepe file)
- When updating the firmware, the opening splash screen can be changed by selecting the "Use another start screen" radio button, and selecting the FrSkyAgilityLogo.bmp file.
- Next, press the "SD Card Synchronization" button in the top menu and select the unzipped SD Card Image for the "Local Folder". The SD Card packaged with the Taranis is prone to failure and we would recommend replacing it with a higher quality card. The SD Card can be found in the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
- Finally (Do this step last), calibrate the analog inputs on the radio by following the instructions here.
- Disconnect all wires from the receiver
- Use the jumpers that came with the receiver to channels 1/2 and 3/4 along the top row, and connector 3 (Red, Black, Orange) into one of the bottom sockets, as shown in the pictures below.
- Make sure the the transmission mode is set to D16 in the radio profile (press menu once and then page once to get to the model setup screen, then scroll down until you see the Internal RF settings
- Binding Procedure
- Press [bind] in the radio menu (same menu as the Internal RF settings)
- Press and hold down the F/S button on the receiver
- Power on the receiver via Cassie’s logic power
- Wait for the radio to beep and for the receiver to blink red. This will happen quickly, and the radio will not stop periodically beeping
- Power off the receiver
- Reconnect the wires in the standard configuration and remove the jumpers from the receiver
