   To assess the workload of a product engineering team, I typically use this checklist to identify any missing elements that might be critical or could lead to stress or unforeseen challenges. I refer to it as an assessment model, it’s not intended to create a judgment about a team. If a team is not taking work in from a specifc source of category, it becomes a conversation starter to better understand how a team operates.

   Also, keep in mind that these items aren't all equal. Many items of work are too raw to act on directly, may be oddly scoped, irrelevant in context, or ambiguous. In a world where it's not the goal to fix everything, it helps to create an understanding what you deliberately put aside.
