This is the first release of the courseware on Finite Element Methods containing the following chapters:

  • One- and two-dimensional basis functions
  • Variational formulation and finite element approximation of an one-dimensional beam with linear Timoshenko kinematics
  • Variational formulation and finite element approximation of a two-dimensional plate with linear Reissner-Mindlin kinematics
  • Transverse-shear locking for beams with linear Timoshenko kinematics and plates with linear Reissner-Mindlin kinematics
  • Application of weak Dirichlet boundary conditions for the Timoshenko beam
  • A Hellinger-Reissner formulation for a beam with linear Timoshenko kinematics
