I think we haven't discussed whether to deprecate the legacy label yunikorn.apache.org/username.
For back compatibility, I prefer keep it as legacy. If we are going to deprecate the legacy label. I think a notification to user channel is required.

Need more feedback from other users/contributors.

We should certainly deprecate it. We should probably document that as part of the 1.7.0 release notes and remove in 1.8.0.

We have not done this correctly and missed the 1.7 release deprecation notice. We need to add it to the 1.8 notice and we cannot remove it until 1.9. We should update the text in the doc and add something like this:

The legacy user label has been deprecated in YuniKorn 1.8.0. The processing of the label will be removed in YuniKorn 1.9.0
