Walkthrough

Updated config/sources/families/sun55iw3.conf: the global variable LINUXFAMILY was changed from "sunxi64" to "sun55iw3", and a new global variable LINUXCONFIG was added with the value "linux-sunxi64-${BRANCH}". No other files or logic were modified.

Learning: In Armbian build system configuration files like config/sources/families/*.conf, KERNELSOURCE is explicitly declared when using unofficial or 3rd party kernel repositories (like the "dev" branch using https://github.com/apritzel/linux), but can be omitted when using the standard mainline kernel (like the "edge" branch) since it will fall back to the default mainline source.

Learning: For the interactive kernel selection in Armbian, KERNEL_MAJOR_MINOR and KERNEL_DESCRIPTION are parsed from family.conf but deliberately not set as environment variables to avoid potential interference with other parts of the build system.

Timestamp: 2025-07-23T07:30:52.265Z
Learning: In the Armbian build system, BOOTPATCHDIR can contain board-specific subdirectories (e.g., board_orangepi5pro) for applying patches to specific boards only. The framework automatically checks if such board-specific subdirectories exist for the board being built and applies those patches accordingly.

22-22: Good fix: LINUXFAMILY now matches the file/family name.

Switching from a generic "sunxi64" to "sun55iw3" avoids cross-family pollution and aligns with how this file is sourced and tracked. This should help isolate sun55iw3 specifics and prevent sunxi64 edge breakage.

I'm using a Cubie A5E, and I notice the downgrade of -sunxi64 kernel (shipped with 25.11.0-trunk.21 device image) when doing apt upgrade, what workaround should be done here? Try to revert it or install -sun55iw3 series?
