GENERAL USAGE INFORMATION:
-- Beware of using very large files. They will work, but due to the large length it may take a while for your process to complete. Please be patient.
INSTALLATION:
-
VLC (version 2.1 or higher) must be installed.
-
BASH shell has to be installed.

avconv must be installed as well
DESCRIPTION:
This software will allow the user to manipulate and edit audio and video files.
Features given are:
- Download open source video and audio files
- Play audio and video files
- See previous files played
- Skip forward, backward, play, pause, fast forward, rewind, stop, mute/unmute a video or audio file
- Take a screen shot
- Extract part of a video
- Make a gif from a video
- Get all the images from a video
- Extract audio from a video
- Add text to start and end of a video
- Replace or overlay the audio of a video
- Delete history
- Make a library
- add audio and video filters
- replay and set playback speed
- Make a playlist
- Play a folder full of media files.
- Make and add subtitles
INSTRUCTIONS FOR EACH FEATURE
Download a video or Audio
- Tools menu -> Download:
enter info: -URL -output directory -output name
To start download click "Download" To stop download click "Cancel" To resume download click "Resume"
Play Audio/Video files:
--> Go to "Play" tab --> Toggle panel (bottom right corner button) --> click on "choose file to play" --> Select file and click "ok"
See previous filed played:
--> go to "play" tab --> Toggle panel (bottom right corner button). --> Look at the history text area
ScreenShot:
--> go to "play" tab --> Toggle panel (bottom right corner button). --> Click on screen shot button (camera icon). --> current frame image will be saved to home folder
Extract part of a video:
METHOD 1:
--> When the media is playing double click on media player screen to start recording --> Double click on the media player screen to stop recording --> The file will be saved to the home folder ( time extracted is the time difference between start and end of recording)
METHOD 2:
--> Click on the "Tools" menu --> Then click on the "Extract part of the video" --> Enter a video file and the times for extraction --> Choose the output destination --> Click on the extract button
Make a GIF:
--> Go to the "Video features" menu --> Click on the "Make a gif" item --> Enter the video file to make into a gif --> Enter the output name and choose a output directory --> Click on the "make a gif" button
Get all images from the video:
--> Go to "Video features" menu --> Click on "Get images from video" --> Enter the video to extract from --> Choose an output destination --> Click on the "Get the images" button
Extract Audio from Video;
--> Go to the "Audio features" menu --> Click on "Extract Audio" --> Enter a video file as input --> Choose an output destination --> Start extraction
Add text to start or end of video:
--> Click on the "Video features" menu --> Click on "Add text to video" --> A new frame will open up. Left side text area is to add text to start of video --> Right side text area is to add text to end of video. --> 'Enable' Select this to enable overlaying text for the corresponding part of the video --> 'Time to show text' The time to display the given text for --> 'Font size' Size of the font overlayed --> Drop down menu for text color selection --> Drop down menu for font selection
After choosing settings, select the output directory and output filename, and select start to begin processing.
The current settings may be saved by selecting 'File' -> 'Save' Previous settings can be loaded by selecting 'File -> 'Open'
Replace or Overlay the audio of a video:
--> Go to the "Audio Features" menu --> Click on Replace/Overlay audio option --> Enter a video and audio file --> Choose the output destination and output file name --> Click replace or overlay
Delete History:
--> GO to Tools menu --> Click Delete history
Hide/Load history:
--> Go to tools menu --> Click load/hide history
Set playback speed:
Method 1:
--> Right click on media screen when media is playing and select speed
Method 2:
--> Go to the Audio Features menu --> Click on playback speed --> Select the playback speed
Replay:
--> Go to the Audio Features menu --> Click on replay check box to select/deselect
Audio Filter:
--> Go to Audio Features --> Click on "Add Audio Filters" --> Add a input video file --> Choose a filter --> Add the filter
Video Filter:
--> Go to Video Features --> Click on "Add Video Filters" --> Add a input video file --> Choose a filter --> Add the filter
Library:
--> There is a list on the left that shows all the current files in the media player library --> Add media files by clicking on "Add Video/Audio" button --> Remove media file by selecting and clicking "Remove". Multiple media files can be removed by selecting them. --> Load a playlist by clicking on "load a playlist" button. Only playlists made by VAMIX can be loaded. --> Play the list of files in list by clicking on "Play the list" button --> Load a folder will allow the user to load all the media files in that folder --> Cancel playing the list will remove all the files from the list.
Add subtitles: --> Remember, a video has to be playing for this function to work! --> click on"Video Features" menu and go to adding subtitles --> choose a srt file
Make Subtitles: --> Go to "Video Features" menu --> Go to "Make subtitles" -- > A new frame will be opened. --> Choose a video file to get started --> Enter start and end times --> Add text to show for those times --> Add to preview --> Then make a subtitles file --> Remember that only the text from the right hand side text area is added to the subtitles file!
