This reverts commit 8b12768, reversing changes made to 678851b.

Problem

The previous PR got automatically merged by the bot, whose feature hasn't been ready to release to external customers:

revert: merge pull request #7629 from LiGaCu/wcs_optin

Will re-apply those changes when the feature is ready for external customers.
