I am a Full-Stack Software Developer with over 15 years of experience building high-performance applications and managing scalable infrastructure. My work bridges the gap between complex data science and robust software engineering.
Note: Most of my open-source projects and contribution history from 2014 to 2025 are hosted on my previous GitHub account, available at github.com/carlosribas.

Responsible for the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in my most recent roles at both the European Bioinformatics Institute β EMBL-EBI (Cambridge, UK) and NeuroMat (University of SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil), delivering high-performance applications and scalable infrastructure to support scientific research.
- Performance Engineering: Optimised the Sequence Search tool, achieving a 20-fold increase in speed (reducing search times from 4.5 minutes to 13 seconds).
- Cloud Infrastructure: Led the migration of RNAcentral to Kubernetes, utilising Docker and automated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub/GitLab) for enhanced scalability.
- Data Integration: Developed LitScan, a NextFlow pipeline that links RNA sequences with open-access scientific literature from Europe PMC.
Beyond technical execution, I have a proven track record of leading teams and delivering high-impact projects:
- Team Leadership: At NeuroMat (University of SΓ£o Paulo), I led a cross-functional team of 5 to 7 people to develop systems for neuroscience research.
- Frictionless Data Award: Led the development of the Neuroscience Experiments System (NES), which was selected as a funded project by the Frictionless Data Fund (Open Knowledge Foundation).
- Military Leadership: Previously served as a Lieutenant in the Brazilian Army, managing the IT department and leading a team of five soldiers.
