Hi @y3nd

Are you able to provide some background for why this change is necessary?

I'm not entirely sure this library is big enough or complex enough to gain much advantage from this change, and fiddling with this unnecessarily seems to bring a risk of possibly regressing something.

This was done on most official plugins and capacitor itself, and allows compatibility with AGP 9 which is recommended to the user by AGP Upgrade Assistant on Android Studio.
