It didn't work the way we wanted.
Unfortunately, the Minimal Mistakes theme doesn't support dropdowns in the masthead navigation, so something like this seems the best alternative.
Extract a comprehensive include file which is flexible enough to support all of the variants of event listings we've come across (and more) while providing a common look and feel if we don't mess with it.
We just needed an alternative way for the event-series pages to specify the collection they want to use for events. So we invented the `event_collection` key. Viola. And the event-series.html layout becomes superfluous
