A reusable and updatable Markdown template for organizing your personal affairs so that someone can pick up and manage things without added stress or having to dig for account numbers, passwords, or important papers.
The template (example.md) covers:
- Passwords and physical access
- Emergency contacts
- Finances (bank accounts, retirement, investments, crypto, mortgage, debts)
- Recurring payments and subscriptions
- Insurance
- Employer, income, and business ownership
- Tax information
- Utilities
- Digital accounts (email, social media, cloud storage, domains)

- Important documents and where they're stored

example.mdto a new file with a different name (e.g.,my-info.md). - Fill in the copy with your personal information.
- Your renamed copy will be automatically ignored by git, so it won't be committed to the repository.
- Don't write down crypto seed phrases or password manager master passwords directly in the document. Instead, print it out, add that information by hand, and store it in multiple secure physical locations.
- Your filled-in copy will contain highly sensitive data (account numbers, routing numbers, policy numbers, etc.). Consider encrypting the file or storing it only on local, non-cloud-synced storage.
- I do not pretend to have any sort of legal knowledge, so none of this should be taken as legal advice.
- This template is US-centric, so it may need to be modified for those living outside the US.
