Explanation of the Error

This error means Swift Package Manager (SPM) has a version stability conflict:

The problem:

  • This PR updates to swift-markdown 0.7.2 (a stable, tagged version)
  • But swift-markdown 0.7.2 itself depends on swift-cmark using an unstable version (likely a branch, commit hash, or pre-release version)

Why it fails:
SPM enforces a rule: if you depend on a package using a stable version specifier (like 0.7.2), that package must only depend on other packages using stable versions. This ensures the entire dependency tree is reproducible and stable.

What's happening:
The swift-markdown package maintainers specified swift-cmark with an unstable version (perhaps a branch or commit) in their Package.swift. This violates SPM's stability requirements when you try to depend on a stable swift-markdown version.

Possible solutions:

  1. Wait for a newer swift-markdown release that pins swift-cmark to a stable version
  2. Use a branch-based dependency for swift-markdown instead of 0.7.2 (but this makes your dependency unstable too)
  3. Check if there's an older swift-markdown version (like 0.7.1) that doesn't have this issue

This is an upstream issue with the swift-markdown package, not this repository.
