Hi everyone, my name is Giovanni, and I recently joined Red Hat and the Debezium team.

The majority of my career has been spent in companies powered by microservices architectures, navigating https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2016/12/09/spring-cloud-for-microservices-compared-to-kubernetes/[different waves of technologies] and https://microservices.io/post/architecture/2022/11/29/yow-london.html/[migration challenges over time].

On this journey, I had the opportunity to work on the https://www.lastminute.com/[lastminute.com] pricing engine for flights across meta-search and direct channels, implementing dynamic pricing algorithms to ensure accuracy and scalability under high traffic conditions. Furthermore, I worked on integrating multiple Global Distribution Systems (GDS), building reliable and high-performance systems to enhance booking and pricing capabilities.

Prior to this experience, I worked at https://www.bmc.com/[BMC Software] on https://www.bmc.com/it-solutions/bmc-helix-continuous-optimization.html/[capacity planning solutions] for on-premises and cloud infrastructure, handling the ingestion of large volumes of metrics analyzed by statistical algorithms for forecasting.

Across all these experiences, a common theme has been working with scalable and distributed systems (sometimes transactional) leveraging different technologies that are ultimately based on the same fundamental principles. This realization led me to join the Debezium team, where I’m excited to dive deeper into distributed systems, their underlying principles, and the intricacies of change data capture.

In a past life, I spent time in the Aerospace & Defense industry, conducting https://www.slideshare.net/slideshow/cyber-security-and-cyberresilience-for-rpas/98555710#1[research on cyber threats for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)]. In particular, I worked on https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8081999/[time series analysis algorithms] for navigation systems at the https://www.cira.it/en/[Italian Aerospace Research Centre] and was a consultant for Agusta Westland (now https://helicopters.leonardo.com/en/home/[Leonardo Helicopters]), contributing to the development of a common platform for cockpit systems.

Beyond my technical work, I co-organize the https://www.meetup.com/ticino-software-craft/[Ticino Software Craft meetup], where we exchange knowledge, discuss best practices, and explore new perspectives on software. I believe that continuous learning and sharing ideas are key to growth in our industry.

Outside of tech, I enjoy watching films, particularly sci-fi and cyberpunk ones. I’m fascinated by how these genres explore the intersection of technology, society, and human nature.
