Determinism from snapshot

I was reading the doc on determinism, and I was wondering about the emphasis on same initial conditions. Does this mean the simulation is only deterministic if I play a simulation from the beginning? I want to be able to save a simulation's state from the middle, load it and have it reach the same end state as if I had ran the whole simulation. Does anyone know if this is something I'd be able to do?
