I do not understand why we would want to hide something from layercontrol only and this would bring more benefit than confusion, but OK, if it is a request, fine. :)

I think the main use case is to hide an "geometry/area selection layer" from the layer control, as something you don't need to manipulate in the layer control anyhow |
