Summary of Changes

Hello @pavelgj, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request introduces a powerful new dev-test-model command to the Genkit CLI, designed to streamline the process of verifying AI model conformance. It allows developers to test models against the Genkit specification by either specifying supported capabilities directly or by providing comprehensive test suites through YAML or JSON files, ensuring models behave as expected across various interaction types and data modalities.

Highlights

  • New CLI Command: Introduced a new dev-test-model command to the Genkit CLI for testing AI models.
  • Model Conformance Testing: This command enables testing AI models against the Genkit model specification, ensuring they adhere to expected behaviors.
  • Flexible Test Input: Supports testing specific model capabilities via command-line options or loading comprehensive test suites from external JSON or YAML files.
  • Comprehensive Validators: Includes built-in validators for various model behaviors such as tool requests, structured output, multi-turn conversations, context handling, system roles, and different media inputs/outputs (images, video, audio).
  • Dependency Update: Added the yaml package as a new dependency to facilitate parsing test suite files.

🧠 New Feature in Public Preview: You can now enable Memory to help Gemini Code Assist learn from your team's feedback. This makes future code reviews more consistent and personalized to your project's style. Click here to enable Memory in your admin console.

Code Review

This pull request introduces a new dev-test-model CLI command, which is a great addition for testing model conformance. The implementation is comprehensive, covering various test cases and supporting both YAML and JSON for test definitions. I've provided a few suggestions to improve type safety by replacing any with proper types and type guards, and to make error handling more robust. I also suggested using Zod schema parsing instead of unsafe type casting to ensure runtime correctness.

I don't love the name though. Maybe have a dev: prefix for similar future commands?
