Summary of Changes
Hello @fulleni, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!
I've refactored the data route CRUD operations, specifically for GET
and DELETE
requests, to delegate authorization and ownership checks to dedicated middleware. This change significantly simplifies the logic within the _handleGet
and _handleDelete
functions, making them more concise and focused on their primary responsibilities of data retrieval and deletion. By leveraging middleware for these checks, I've also introduced an optimization in the GET
handler to utilize pre-fetched data, avoiding redundant database calls.
Highlights
- Streamlined GET handler logic: The
_handleGet
function has been streamlined by removing the explicit handler-level ownership check. It now checks if the item was already pre-fetched by middleware (viaFetchedItem
). If so, it uses the pre-fetched item, otherwise, it proceeds to fetch it, ensuring that authorization and ownership are handled upstream. - Simplified DELETE handler logic: The
_handleDelete
function has been significantly simplified by removing the entire block of code responsible for fetching the item and performing ownership checks. The handler now explicitly relies on theownershipCheckMiddleware
to have already verified the user's permissions, making the handler solely responsible for the deletion operation. - Centralized authorization and ownership checks: Both
_handleGet
and_handleDelete
now clearly state in their comments that authorization and ownership checks are handled by middleware. This centralizes security concerns and makes the individual route handlers more focused on their core data manipulation responsibilities.

Code Review
This pull request is a solid improvement, successfully refactoring the ownership checking logic out of the route handlers and into a dedicated middleware. This enhances the separation of concerns and cleans up the handler code significantly. The optimization in _handleGet
to avoid redundant database fetches is also a welcome addition. I've included a couple of suggestions to further improve maintainability by addressing some code duplication that remains, specifically around the data access logic and the determination of the user ID for repository calls.
