Releases: forcequitOS/Focustomize
"The Finale"
Focustomize is being discontinued, but here's one last release.
So, fun fact, I actually lost the source code for what was originally, ACTUALLY going to be Public Beta 4, this build might actually be earlier than beta "3.5", but later than beta 3? I'll list off what I recall.
I am since realizing that a few features (cough Custom Symbol Name cough) aren't present in this build for some reason, but I can't really be bothered working that out.
- "Advanced Settings" is more fleshed out, showing the mode identifier, an attempt at a semanticType chooser, an attempt at duplicate and delete actions, and a toggle for visibility in System Settings
- Private SF Symbol support is here, although done way less complex than was originally done in the lost, real Focustomize Beta 4.
- Liquid Glass support, featuring a Liquid Glass icon I actually did back in June 2025, right around when I made the UTM app icon.
I'm also including the iOS app I threw together at some point, the code is legitimately 99% shared between the iOS and macOS versions, so I'm not going to upload it here. Just imagine it using /var/mobile and having an extra entitlement or two. The iOS app requires TrollStore (or a jailbreak), is behind the macOS version, and is horribly unoptimized from a UI perspective. Looks and works best on iPads. You'll have to manually run killall donotdisturbd since I never implemented support for doing so directly.
Genuine moral of the story:
Don't vibe code so hard that you start to lose how to understand the code you've written.
Store your project code somewhere that it can't get easily lost? I can tell you right now, precisely how I lost the variant of Focustomize that would've been beta 4. My MacBook got bricked and since I stored the project in my Downloads folder when I was working on beta 3.5 and beta 4 I guess, that was lost and wasn't backed up.
Focustomize Public Beta "3.5"
What's new in this beta?
Mainly small tweaks and improvements.
New Features:
- There's now an "Advanced Mode", currently with two options, setting a custom icon by symbol name (Useful for private SF Symbols at the moment), and a sorta-dangerous delete Focus button. This is your daily reminder that Focustomize comes with no warranty, I'm not responsible if you brick your Focus modes completely or something.
Random Fixes & Improvements:
- Wording has been changed for the Settings panel ("Advanced Mode" instead of "Advanced Settings")
- Wording for alerts has also changed quite a bit to sound more logical, alongside being shortened down a little if you have a long Focus name
- Labels for colors have been changed, alongside the labels in the color picker
- Fixes the refresh button not reloading data in the Details view
- You probably can't tell, but there's been a MAJOR cleanup internally with tons of simplification. Might allow for some cool things in the future ;)
Have fun!
Happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate)!
Focustomize Public Beta 3
What's new in this beta?
Installing (and updating) Focustomize can now be done with an installer script! This just makes things a little easier to avoid code signing shenanigans.
Focus Renaming:
- The rename Focus popover is smaller than before thanks to the death of the Cancel and Rename buttons (Now, you can just use the regular Apply Changes button)
- The detail view's title is now dynamic to stay updated with the rename Focus popover
- Fully blank Focus names are now allowed
- The rename Focus popover now automatically fills in your current Focus name
- Focus names reset when switching between selected Focus modes
User Interface:
- Animations have been sped up a decent amount
- A new "Colorful Sidebar" option has been added in Settings, try it if you want
- There's now a "Jump to System Settings" button in the toolbar for convenience
- The default accent color for the app has been updated to actually match the icon
- The "Clear" color now has a small prohibited sign and has had its opacity increased so that you don't miss it
- Adds hints for the toolbar buttons when hovering the cursor over them
- The color bubble animation starts properly when triggered, instead of only happening during transitions
- Changes wording from "Symbol" to "Icon" for the Remove Icon and Edit Symbol buttons
Random Fixes and Improvements:
- The app now has a Settings window, doesn't do much right now though
- Disclaimers have been added for Focuses that are more hardcoded than usual (Reduce Interruptions and Do Not Disturb)
- System Settings is now closed automatically when applying changes
- Uses Apple's font sizes, since manually entering them is lame
- "Remove Icon" now is disabled when the icon is set to "blank" (which is the default empty icon since Beta 2)
- Some issues relating to codesigning SHOULD be resolved now
Enjoy!
Someday automatic updates will exist.
Focustomize Public Beta 2.1
xcodebuild > Xcode.app.
This makes the app actually usable instead of never properly gaining Full Disk Access permissions. Thanks, Xcode.
Have fun and enjoy. I'm tired.
Always test your apps before distribution.
Focustomize 1.0 Public Beta 2
The first public Public Beta for Focustomize, truly revolutionary.
Ignore macOS' attempts to make you believe this is a dangerous app, it's not. It's just unsigned.
