✨ Functionalities Guide

Welcome to the Functionalities Guide for Chrome-Assist! Explore the powerful tools and features that make your browsing experience smarter and more efficient.

🔍 Text Summarization

What It Does:

Generate summaries of selected text in various formats, such as:

  • “tl;dr”
  • Key Points
  • etc.

How to Use:

  1. Select / Highlight text on a webpage.
  2. Use the context menu (double-click the page) and select Summarize Selection.
  3. View the summary in the Outputs tab of the side panel.

Shortcut: Alt + Shift + S (after opening the side panel).

🌐 Transliteration

What It Does:

Transliterate selected text from English to other languages in real time.

How to Use:

  1. Select / Highlight the text to transliterate.

  2. Use the context menu (double-click the page) and select Transliterate Selection.

  3. Select the language to transliterate to (from English).

  4. View the transliterated text in the Outputs tab of the side panel.

Note: Transliteration is now fully functional and available for all supported languages.

✏️ Rewrite Text

What It Does:

Modify the tone or style of selected text for various contexts, such as:

  • More Formal
  • More Casual

How to Use:

  1. Select / Highlight the text to rewrite.
  2. Use the context menu (double-click the page) and select Rewrite Selection.
  3. View the rewritten output in the Outputs tab of the side panel.

Note: This is integrated into the Outputs tab with each output (that is not a 'Search' type) having a rewrite icon in the top row.

Shortcut: Alt + Shift + R (after opening the side panel).

🖋️ Text Composition

What It Does:

Generate new text based on a prompt with customizable:

  • Tone (e.g., formal, casual, neutral).
  • Length (short, medium, long).

How to Use:

  1. Open the side panel.
  2. Navigate to the Compose tab.
  3. Enter a prompt and configure the tone and length.
  4. Click the 'Submit Icon Button' and view the output in the Outputs tab.

Shortcut: Alt + Shift + W (after opening the side panel).

🔎 Web Search Query Enhancer

What It Does:

Enhance web search queries for more precise and contextually rich results.

How to Use:

  1. Open the side panel.
  2. Navigate to the Compose tab.
  3. Enter a query in the box and click the 'Search Icon'.
  4. View the enriched query suggestions in the Outputs tab and use them directly from the side panel.

📖 Bookmark Summarizer

What It Does:

Organize and process bookmarks by storing:

  • Appropriate title
  • Relevant keywords
  • Concise summary

How to Use:

  1. Open the side panel.
  2. Save a bookmark in Chrome as you would using the Bookmark Button in the Omni Box.
  3. View the summarization in the Bookmarks Tab.

🔍 Hybrid Search over Outputs and Bookmark Summaries

What It Does:

Provides a Hybrid Search over the Outputs and Bookmark Summaries.

  • Full Text Search: Automatically performs a search across all outputs and bookmarked summaries.
  • Semantic Search: Click the search button in the search box to perform a semantic search for more contextually relevant results.

How to Use:

  1. Navigate to the Outputs or Bookmarks tab in the side panel.
  2. Click the Search Icon to open the search box.
  3. Start typing to automatically perform a Full Text Search.
  4. To perform a Semantic Search, click the Search Button in the search box.
  5. View the results underneath in box in the same tab.

⚙️ Customizable Settings

What You Can Configure:

  • Every major setting used for all the above functionalities

How to Use:

  1. Open the settings tab in the side panel.
  2. Adjust the preferences to suit your needs.

Note: Make sure you don't leave the context setting for Write and Rewrite empty, for now.

💡 Tips for Best Results

  • Highlight Specific Text: Use selection-based features for better results.
  • Experiment with Prompts: For rewriting and composing, try different prompts to see varied outputs.
  • Use Shortcuts: Save time by using keyboard shortcuts! (But, make sure you open the side panel first, for now 😊)

Note: When using the shortcuts, if nothing is selected, the app summarizes the entire page.

New Home Page Functionality

The home page now includes both text and voice input, allowing users to perform all major browser API functions as mentioned earlier. Simply speak or type to trigger actions like Adding to Reading List, Navigating to well known links, and more, for an even more intuitive experience!

Integrated API's:

  1. History API

    • Access and interact with the browser history.

  2. Sessions API

    • Manage and manipulate browser session data.

  3. Tabs API

    • Interact with browser tabs (e.g., opening, closing, and switching tabs).

  4. Font Settings API

    • Customize font settings across web pages.

  5. Reading List API

    • Manage and organize saved items in the reading list.

  6. Alarms API

    • Set and manage alarms or reminders.

  7. Notifications API

    • Trigger and manage notifications in the browser.

  8. Downloads API

    • Manage file downloads and track their progress.

Translation Update

  • The translation feature has been replaced with transliteration, which is now fully functional and available via the context menu under Transliterate Selection. There is no shortcut for this feature, but it can be accessed with ease from the context menu for supported languages.
