Website

  • Add links to course curriculum and update the course curriculum to be organized by skills learned rather than the course names
  • Update the Learning Hub instructor's page (Create a template for the instructors' bio? and ask each instructor to provide their bio)
  • Relocate data science fellows and openscapes to appropriate places outside of the learning hub branding/communications
  • Refresh the learning hub website page to focus on resources and training, with clear links to available course materials
  • Reduce the amount of text on the website and make it easier to read by adding accordions, photos, and other visual cues

Branding

  • Brainstorm refreshed hex sticker/logo as a brand asset for the LH, with a clear link to NCEAS
  • Develop guidance for branding across different programs (LTER, NASA, etc.) with Learning Hub

Outreach

  • Advertise director's fellowship to Postdocs/graduate groups
  • Create a checklist for connecting opportunities to UCSB, for ex to Earth Sci, Comp Sci, Bren, and postdoc associations (UCSB)
  • Contact NGOs, agencies, and other organizations in need of data skills

Modules

  • Create a clear menu of data science training that can be used for comms See format from the sci comm trainings
  • Create infographics/one pagers data science menu of offered courses and examples of how they have been combined in the past
  • Write a document with clear learning objectives, pre-requisites, and products for each modular training See example here

WG workflow

  • Create a checklist for ideal engagement with new working groups (similar to for Comms) with some pathways for various types of WGs like LTER vs ADC v Morpho

  • Create consistency in course offerings - longer term, updated calendars with reasonable goals for how often courses are offered (e.g., one offering a month)

  • Lower cost barriers: Offer discounts for UCSB community members, advertise how to fund it through grants, etc Halina

  • Offer and advertise one week course for MESM students within Bren - or in general, the graduate student community at UCSB Halina Offer one week course for faculty cohort with new hires in relevant
