Actions
- We need to define the role of a "Hiero Community Manager" (working title) and check if we can get funding for such a role
Minutes/Resources
- We need more committer and maintainer
- Becoming a committer takes time and skills
- Mentorship and training (of newcomers) is hard/difficult for many committer/maintainer (conflicts with work / not interessted)
- GitHub Triage role is a great way to give newcomers a step before becoming a committer
- "Junior Committer" is what it is called in some of our projects now
- But still much work of committer and maintainers needed
- How we can we streamline all that?
- Our automation processes (beginner can comment "/assignMe" to get assigned, ...) is a very good help here
- We need to think about more automation processes that can help
- Maybe we can even suggest people for the "Junior Committer" role by automation (like when somebody solved 3 issues in a given time)
- Maybe we can create metrics based on that. Would be great to see an overview of possible "Junior Committer"
- As a side hobby you do 1 or 2 issues a month. If people do that regularly they should be able to become "Junior Committer"
- Developing a personal relationship is very good to understand and support "Junior Committer" but that needs a lot of time
- It would be awesome if we would have people (community manager) for that topic
- A community manager could work together with newcomers, "Junior Committer" and maintain metrics on the community members
- Discord or even having a call would be a really good way to stay in contact with those people.
- Staying in touch (chat from time to time) is a real help to get the community together
- We could create a channel for "just chatting" between the newcomers and "Junior Committer" but that must be controlled for CoC
- We reached a point in Hiero on that we need more full-time people for community outreach and so on
- Suggestions from Angelina regarding the work of a community manager:
- Engage with community members to offer support getting started with an Hiero project
- Host a gathering for the community to attend and ask questions
- Oversee community engagement
- Define developer pathways
- Provide guidelines and training for newcomers to get started quickly
- Monitor newcomer discord channels
- Provide analytics and insights into community engagement and progression
- We need to find a better name for the role than "Hiero Community Manager"
All Hiero community meetings must follow Linux Foundation's antitrust policy and adhere to our Code of Conduct.
