Reviews

Below is a list of different reviews from when the game was released and various comments made. I'm mostly noting these down as an opportunity to see where we could make improvements in the future, but for now they're interesting from a historical perspective.

Keep in mind I don't personally agree with many of these reviews either and I may even review the review in some cases.

IGN (7.4/10)

Relatively positive review, though seems to argue that the pigs are rather like Androids.

  • 'While the game's fun for the first few levels, it becomes wearisome early on into the campaign.'
  • '[...] Hogs of War's environments are strikingly primitive.'

GameRevolution (2/5)

Eurogamer (?)

Review score seems to have vanished, but seems like a pretty nice review.

GameSpot (5.5/10)

Starts off on a pretty positive note, but it's like the game did something to offend him mid review. Liked the multi-player mode but seems to have really disliked the single-player campaign, and seems to struggle with the visuals of the game.

Additionally there's no mention of the level generation or more aspects of the multiplayer, I generally think the score given here is too damn low.

  • '[...] the single-player mode is dull, tedious, dreary, and uninteresting.'
  • '[...] the overall pacing worsens as time goes on.'
  • '[...] Hogs of War's graphics do nothing to elicit inspiration or excitement for the task at hand.'
  • '[...] background environments and standing structures constantly distract with their blocky, jagged, and choppy appearances.'
  • '[...] the hills, valleys, trenches, islands, and bridges in Hogs of War don't even live up to the baseline visual standards set by 3DO's Army Men series [...]'
  • 'First, the weapon diversity is astounding.'
  • '[...] the game's sound effects are just drop-dead funny.'
