io.netty.handler.proxy.HttpProxyHandler#HttpProxyHandler(java.net.SocketAddress, java.lang.String, java.lang.String)will throw an NPE if called with eitherusernameorpasswordas null. So useio.netty.handler.proxy.HttpProxyHandler#HttpProxyHandler(java.net.SocketAddress)instead if either of them are null.
