When you are in Power mode, you have higher weapon damage, wand damage, ability damage, and spellpower.

When you are in Focus mode, you have better stealth, accuracy, evasion, and spell success chance.

Escape mode increases your movement speed.

Generally speaking, when a mode benefits you, it costs SP. In other words, using Power mode to attack costs stamina, but moving around does not, because Power mode doesn't affect movement.

When you are not using any mode, your movements take 1.1 turns, and your actions generally consume little or no stamina points (SP). SP is a new resource that works like MP but tends to be a catch-all resource for "extra effort" and a replacement for hunger costs.

The effort modes are a new game system and as such, are subject to rapid changes, refinements, and improvements. Check the changelog for the latest details on keybindings and the effects of effort modes.
